Blessings and Boundaries - A Conference on Higher Education as Ministry
Event Dates & Times:
February 9-10, 2007
Location:
Bellarmine University, Louisville, KY
Target Audience:
Event Description:
Seminarians who participate in Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) units meet with peers and supervisors to process their experiences as chaplains and future pastors, to study themselves and the theological underpinnings for ministry, and to understand how psychological factors impact ministerial relationships. Two years ago, faculty and staff members from two Kentucky universities proposed a similar CPE program in higher education. They found two consistent themes running through their encounters with students and colleagues. 1) Students and colleagues sought their counsel and asked for their blessing as ministers, even though they held no formal title. 2) Difficulties arise in life because boundaries between parties are set inappropriately (at the extremes of uncompromising or enabling). Thus, the theme for the conference is Blessings and Boundaries.
