AmeriCorps KentuckyResponding to a recommendation from the Governor’s Higher Education Work Group, Kentucky Campus Compact (KyCC) and Berea College teamed up to create Kentucky College Coaches (KCC), a near peer program for college students and recent college graduates to help high school students navigate the steps from high school into college.

The proposal was submitted to the Kentucky Commission on Community Volunteerism and Service for funding from the Corporation for National and Community Service, the federal agency that funds AmeriCorps, VISTA, Learn and Serve, and Senior Corps. The Kentucky College Coaches program was awarded 65 full time and 19 quarter AmeriCorps members with a grant of $908,000 per year for three years.

The AmeriCorps members will be placed in high schools around the state of Kentucky and will work alongside guidance counselors and other faculty and staff support students as they transition from high school to college. KCC will especially focus on students who might not envision themselves going to college, first generation college students, and/or populations with low rates of college enrollment.

We are thankful to partner in this endeavor with the Kentucky Higher Education Assistance Authority, Area Technology Centers, the GEAR-UP partnership, and the member institutions of Kentucky Campus Compact.
